Zmoothiez meets an elite cannabis resin producer.
We met Barron, creator of Nasha Extracts, a company specializing in the extraction and production of cannabis resin, at our 1st Emerald Cup in 2017. His company is located in the Humboldt region of Northern California, in the mountains of the famous Emerald Triangle.
A great meeting of Hash enthusiasts
Our shared passion for plants and resins immediately connected us, and we were able to taste and appreciate each other’s work and exchange ideas on the various techniques and tricks involved in making the best hash.
After this meeting, we kept in touch via Instagram where you can follow and admire his work. This gave us the opportunity for L’Emerald Cup 2018 to meet him again and visit his facility based in the heart of the mythical circle of cannabis growers where weed has flourished for generations.
Discover the best cannabis resins
It was a very rewarding experience, and we had the immense pleasure of exploring his incredible cellar at Hash, filled with hundreds of his finest resin vintages, with the most fantastic and varied colors and textures, and intoxicating aromas of flowers, fruits and spices. He had reserved for us his special cuvée, one of his best achievements of the year, HolyNanaCrack, a variety from one of this region’s famous breeders and growers Jesse de Biovortex, of the famous Black Dog Kush.
Gigantic iceolator machines
We were also able to attend a day’s work at his company, where we discovered his techniques for extracting resin without solvents, simply with water and ice, but above all with a great deal of know-how. The art of making BubbleHash in industrial quantities. He uses XXL washing machines that he has slightly modified for greater efficiency and output.
Iceolator production technique
The modified washing machines are filled with water, ice and fine-mesh sieves (allowing the famous trichomes to pass through), containing the resinous plant matter from flowers or leaves.
The washing cycle lasts between 15 and 30 minutes, depending on the variety and type of plant material used. It filters the water from the machines loaded with the precious, coveted trichomes, using various meshes to remove impurities and contaminants and harvest the purest of resins.
Industrial production of organic iceolator
Back in California this year, the Zmoothiez team once again ventured into the Mountains Murder! (like the Netflix series) and meet Barron at his new address.
His new laboratory is now located in an industrial complex housing several extraction companies of all kinds. These premises, with their ergonomics and layout, enable him to work in optimal conditions, and have enabled him to move from the artisanal stage to a more industrial level. The new equipment offers greater ease of use and the ability to process larger volumes. For drying, he is equipped with a number of cold dehydrators, enabling faster, more efficient, homogeneous and precise drying.
Zmoothiez supports organic, local hash!
Constantly striving to improve the quality of his products, he works in direct partnership with local regenerative farms that cultivate ecologically without pesticides or chemical fertilizers. His collaboration with Sunshine from Sunboldtgrown illustrates his attachment to the land, as she grows without water or fertilizers. He also advises them on resin-rich varieties that can achieve yields of up to 30%.
Thanks to Barron for his hospitality and kindness and for introducing us to the heart of the regenerative scene, where we were able to meet some very inspiring and militant people who have the same passion for this plant as we do!
